A glossy psychological thriller that turns Sunday lunch into a battleground.

Laura (Robin Wright) has it all: a glittering career, a loving husband, and her precious son Daniel. Then Daniel brings home Cherry (Olivia Cooke), and Laura becomes convinced the new girlfriend is not who she claims to be. Told from both women's perspectives, the series keeps you guessing whether Laura is a protective mother seeing clearly, or a snob unravelling as her son slips out of her orbit.

What makes it work is the unreliable-narrator engine at its centre. Every scene plays twice — once through Laura's eyes, once through Cherry's — and the show weaponises the gap between the two versions. The class-war subtext (old money versus the girl who married into it) gives the mind games real bite, and both leads play the ambiguity beautifully: neither woman is ever fully sympathetic, and neither is ever fully guilty.

It is not flawless — a few contrivances strain belief and a subplot or two could have been trimmed — but the twists land, the finale justifies the binge. A satisfyingly paranoid watch about a truly dysfunctional family.
