The first episode of Fargo is one of the best hours of television you'll ever see. It is perfectly paced, darkly funny, beautifully shot, and instantly pulls you into a world where small-town politeness hides something much more sinister. From the opening moments, the show feels like it has complete control — every character, every line, and every moment of tension lands perfectly.

Unfortunately, that magic doesn't always last.

The biggest strength of Fargo is also its biggest weakness: it sets the bar impossibly high. After such a phenomenal opening, the series struggles to maintain that same level of momentum. The story becomes more drawn out, some characters lose their impact, and the carefully built tension occasionally gives way to slow, meandering stretches.

There is still plenty to love. The performances are excellent, the dark humour is razor sharp, and the show's unique blend of crime, absurdity, and human tragedy remains compelling. But after an opening episode that feels almost flawless, the rest of the season can't help but feel like it's chasing something it already achieved.

Fargo is a beautifully crafted crime drama with moments of brilliance, but it never quite reaches the heights promised by that unforgettable first hour. A case where the beginning is so good that everything afterwards feels like a slight disappointment.
