Assassins

“A harrowing, stranger-than-fiction story that you have to see to believe”
If I read the headline I would never have believed these girls. Two young women from Indonesia and Vietnam walk up to the half-brother of Kim Jong-un in a Kuala Lumpur airport and smear VX nerve agent on his face — then claim they thought they were filming a prank show.
The story is harrowing. Whatever you believe about their innocence, Siti Aisyah and Doan Thi Huong were chewed up by forces far bigger than themselves, and the film makes you feel every bit of that.
The documentary is at its best when it sits with the women and their families, tracing how two ordinary lives ended up at the centre of a geopolitical murder. The courtroom stretches sag a little, but the human story carries it.
A strange, sad and gripping film about a crime that still doesn't fully make sense. Worth your time, even if it leaves you with more questions than answers.
