A documentary full of twists and turns, and then more twists

Just when you think you've clocked where A Toxic Love Story is going, it yanks the rug, sets it on fire, then hands you a new one. This is the rare true-crime feature that actually earns its runtime — every act ends on a genuine "wait, WHAT" that sends you deeper into your own theories.

What starts as a familiar tale of a whirlwind romance gone wrong quickly spirals into something far stranger: fake identities, forged messages, betrayals from directions you did not see coming. The filmmakers clearly know they're holding a wild deck, and they play the cards with real restraint — no cheap reenactments, no bombastic score telling you how to feel. Just talking heads, receipts, and a slow-motion trainwreck you cannot look away from.

The standout is how the doco treats its central figure. She's not sanctified, she's not villainised — she's allowed to be complicated, and the film is stronger for it. By the final reveal you're not just asking "who did what" but "how did any of this happen in the first place," which is exactly where the best true crime lives.

Minor gripes: the middle act sags slightly as the timeline gets knottier, and one interviewee gets more airtime than they've earned. But when the final twist lands? Full body chills. Cancel your evening.
